We are pleased to announce our next activity, taking place this Thursday, 22 October, from 15:00 to 16:00.
We will have a talk on “Women’s Leadership in the European Institutions: Its Evolution and Influence on EU Legislation,”given by Lidia Ballesta.
Dr. Lídia Ballesta Martí is a Lecturer in Public International Law at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, specialising in European Union Law, Gender, Non-discrimination and Digital Law. She was awarded the Extraordinary Doctorate Award and the First Prize at the 2024 FJ Landaburu Universitas Awards, granted by EuroBasque, for her work on women’s leadership in EU institutions. She is the Principal Investigator of the ApartGen project, which addresses the need for a new legal category for gender apartheid in international law, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Equality . She is also a member of the research team of the REEL-WIDE project, which examines European law responses to trafficking in women in digital environments, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
This research examines women’s participation in decision-making positions within EU institutions. It explores the impact of women’s leadership in the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Court of Justice of the European Union, with the aim of countering the invisibility of their contributions and analysing how women’s representation has shaped the development of equality legislation and policies and reinforce the EU values.
The talk will be held in a hybrid format, allowing you to attend either in person in Oñati or online.
