Loan Policy

Reservations / Loans

Number of books: a maximum of 6 books.
Duration of the loan:

• If you are in Oñati, the duration of the loan is 7 days.
• If you are outside Oñati, the loan period is 20 days.

Loan extension: Only one extension per loan will be allowed. The extension must be requested before the loan expiry date. The extension will not be possible if the document has been reserved by another user.

Return: always at the library counter and in person, except if you are outside Oñati, in which case, you must send it by registered mail to this address and let us know the date you have sent it.

Breach of norms

• All users of the loan service are responsible for the works received on loan.
• An unjustified delay in returning the book(s) will be penalized with a temporary suspension of the lending right:
  • One day of suspension for every day of delay and every book
  • From day 50 of delay, the lending right will be suspended for 6 months
  • The user will not be able to reserve a document while the suspension lasts.
• Loss of a book: The user will be responsible for substituting the lost document or, if the document is no longer on sale, for purchasing an analogous document. The library staff will supervise the purchase and will notify the user so that he/she can make the payment.
• Damage of a book: The user must ensure good conservation of the borrowed document. If it is noticed that a document has been damaged during the loan by a particular user, he/she will have to replace the document. The rules exposed in the previous paragraph apply.
• In the event of total or partial destruction, loss or non-return of the lent work, it must be replaced by another copy of the same characteristics or with its economic value if it cannot be found on the market.

The bibliographic collection of the IISL library can be borrowed, with the exception of some reference works, journals, old collection works and all those works which, due to their particular characteristics, are recommended to be consulted exclusively in the library rooms.

Documents on loan/excluded from loan

The following works are excluded from the loan service:

• Reference works (encyclopaedias, dictionaries, catalogues, bibliographies, etc.).
• Periodical publications (magazines)
• Old documents.
• Theses, dissertations.
