The IISL awards two students for their theses

A moment of Hue Thien Ta's defence.
17 Sep 2025

We are delighted to announce that the 2025 ANDRÉ-JEAN ARNAUD PRIZE has been awarded jointly to two outstanding students – a rare and very special occasion! Both achieved the same remarkable grade (9.7/10) for their Master’s theses:

  • Hue Thien Ta, for her thesis "Surfing against Inequality: Sri Lankan Women Reclaim the Sea"
  • Teresa Casas, for her thesis "La construcción de agendas en el discurso legislativo. Ley del solo sí es sí: un análisis de las estrategias discursivas y sus efectos políticos."

This award celebrates not only their academic excellence, but also the diversity and richness of the research carried out within the Oñati International Master’s in Sociology of Law.

The prize honours the memory of André-Jean Arnaud, the first director of the International Institute for the Sociology of Law, who passed away in 2015, and is given each year to the student – or, as in this exceptional year, students – with the best Master’s thesis.

We warmly congratulate Hue Thin and Teresa on this remarkable achievement!
