This project aims at the creation and maintenance of an online database of empirical victim-oriented atrocity research: the ‘VICDATA Database’and the facilitation of research projects, training, and teaching; the generation and exchange of information; and exchanges in the academic field. This project is led by the VICDATA Consortium composed by the Leuven Institute of Criminology, Faculty of Law and Criminology of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven; the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement; the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; the International Network of Victims & Survivors of Serious Human Rights Abuses and the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law.
Expected Research Outcomes
- Scope review for VICDATA specifically focused on Spanish language sources.
- Signature of the memorandum of understanding by the IISL. The Scientific Director, Camilo Umaña, participates in the opening of the intensive days of the elective master course on Political crimes and transitional justice, and guest lectures on transitional justice in the University of Leuven in March 2026.
