Vincenzo Ferrari (born 1940) won a Law Degree in Law in 1962 at Milan State University and has worked as a lawyer in Italy ever since, specialised in civil law and labour law. A student of prof. Renato Treves, he co-operated with him as assistant professor in philosophy of law and subsequently taught sociology of law as lecturer and tenured professor at Cagliari and Bologna Universities. Back to Milan University in 1990, he served there as Law School dean and director of the Doctoral School in Legal Sciences, as well as Rector’s deputy at the international academic associations. He chaired the ISA Research Committee on Sociology of Law (1990-1994), was a member of the ISA Executive Committee (1994-2002), one of the founders of the Oñati Institute in 1988-1989 and its scientific director (2016-2018). He is honorary professor of the Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas and the Universidad Externado de Colombia, of which he is also doctor h.c. He holds doctorates h.c. also from the Universities of Rosario (Argentina), Buenos Aires, Zaragoza and UNAM (Mexico). He was a member of the social sciences panel at the European Research Council (2010-2015) and has been a member of the Academic Advisory Board of Kuwait International Law School since its foundation in 2011.
