28th International Master's in the Sociology of Law 2017/2018

Vincenzo FerrariDear friends,

The IISL master programme, 2017-18, is now ready. As can be seen, it basically adheres to tradition while offering the widest possible prospect into the state of law and society issues in our days. The courses will deal with a number of subjects of critical importance for socio-legal scholars, with the help of a highly qualified team of teachers coming from diverse countries and representing the most vivid streams of thought in legal sociology and legal theory. Special attention has been paid to methodology, both qualitative and quantitative. As a specialized social science, sociology of law is both theory, especially of middle range, and field research.

Theory is especially needed to build up testable research hypotheses and a rigorous methodological approach is the first weapon in the hands of a social scientist. The master programme as a whole and all the ad hoc courses offered to the students have been conceived of as a chance to achieve this mentality and, no less, to go in-depth into a number of delicate questions concerning the role of law in a quickly developing societies.

The IISL looks forward to the attendance of a selected number of students coming from a variety of countries and cultures. Intercultural exchanges are one of the elements of the success achieved by the IISL master throughout its already long history.
