Course in the Module "New Issues in Socio-legal Studies II" (1,5 ECTS)

The proposed course aims to propose a debate on the impact of the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence technologies in the field of the administration of justice and, more specifically, its impact on the judicial organization and the legal professions.

In this sense, it should be taken into account that the irruption of artificial intelligence and the incorporation of advanced technologies in the field of the Administration of Justice has been a reality that has left no one indifferent.

Advances in technologies based on artificial intelligence are, at present, allowing the automation of a multitude of tasks that, previously, were performed by different operators and legal professionals. This is causing that many of these services and routine tasks are being developed by machines, with the consequent loss of prominence of the affected professional groups.

In this context, we ask ourselves the following questions: what is the future of the legal professionals who defend and represent the citizen before the Courts? What new type of judicial organization are we facing?

It seems difficult to imagine the new reality that is opening up before us as a result of the irruption of AI in so many different fields. Therefore, this course will try to propose a debate on the impact of these new technologies on such specific issues as the new landscape of judicial organization, as well as on the impact of AI solutions on the functions performed by professionals in charge of defending and representing the parties before the courts.
