Visiting Scholar: Bakan, Joel

Joel Bakan is an internationally renowned legal scholar, a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar at the Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia and a former Rhodes Scholar and law clerk to Chief Justice Brian Dickson of the Supreme Court of Canada. He is well known for his award-winning and widely translated works on corporations and their global power, 'The New Corporation' (2020) book and film being his most recent, and his work unconstitutional rights, most recently the book 'Just Rights: The Canadian Charter in Troubled Times (2026)'. Prof. Bakan works from a socio-legal perspective. His work is deeply interdisciplinary and highly impactful for its public-facing dissemination.
