RCSL Working Group for Comparative Studies of Legal Professions

10 juin - 11 juin

Coordinators: Lisa Webley (Birmingham Law School)

Our experience in Oñati

I was delighted that the IISL hosted our RCSL Working Group for the Comparative Study of the Legal Professions “Legal Professions Working Group (LPWG)” virtual biennial meeting on the 10th and 11th June 2021. We were extremely well looked after by Malen and her colleagues, through from expressions of interest, paper proposals, the run up the working group meeting and the two-day meeting itself. We were warmly welcomed by the Scientific Director of the Institute, Martin Ramstedt and were given details of publishing opportunities via the IISL by Leire Kortabarria. Our working group has a long tradition of publishing collections throught the IISL and we hope that additional books will result from work developed during our meeting. We had the opportunity to hear papers from all our sub-groups, nineteen papers over two days, along with an additional plenary session to reflect on the collaborative work of the Project on Lawyers in 21st Century Societies, volume one of which has recently been published and volume two is being finalised: https://www.bloomsburyprofessional.com/uk/lawyers-in-21st-century-societies-9781509915156/. Our biennial meeting had had to be postponed from 2020 due to Covid restrictions and we are very grateful that we have been able to hold it in a positive, friendly and productive way with the support of the Institute. Many thanks to all involved in making it such a special occasion.
