Pires Milfont, Iasmin
Iasmin Pires Milfont is a second-year Master’s candidate in Law at Fundação Getulio Vargas (Getulio Vargas Foundation – FGV Direito SP), São Paulo, Brazil, under the supervision of Maíra Rocha Machado. She is a FAPESP fellow (São Paulo Research Foundation, a public research funding agency in the State of São Paulo) and a member of the research group Direito e Violência de Estado at FGV.
Her research examines the legislative process concerning racial profiling in Brazil, focusing on bills introduced in the National Congress, parliamentary debates, and the report issued by the Commission of Black Jurists. Through a qualitative and document-based approach informed by Grounded Theory methodology, she investigates competing legal conceptions of racism and police violence, including proposals aimed both at restricting racial profiling and at protecting state agents.
