Heggie, Clare
I am a Doctoral Candidate at the University of New Brunswick in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, supported by a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and an MSSU Trainee Award for Patient Oriented Research. My doctoral research explores the intersection of rurality, gender and criminalization as it determines access to healthcare. Since 2018, I have been the Research Coordinator for Wellness Within, the only non-profit in Canada dedicated to advancing reproductive justice for people in prisons. In this role and in my doctoral work I co-leads community-based research on access to sexual and reproductive healthcare within the socio-legal context of imprisonment in Canada. I am currently a visiting PhD scholar in the Sydney Policy Lab at the University of Sydney (Australia), and was previously a visiting scholar in the School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences at Ulster University (Northern Ireland).
