Biografía: 

Ronald Janse is professor of law and dean of the faculty of law at the Open University in Heerlen, the Netherlands. He is editor-in-chief of the Hague Journal on the Rule of Law and one of the editors of the forum (blogs) of the Dutch website www.nederlandrechtsstaat.nl  

He is working on a monograph on the history of the EU's expectation that Member States respect the rule of law, democracy and fundamental rights: Why, how and when did that expectation emerge, and how did it evolve?

Parts of his research on this topic regarding the 1960s and the big bang enlargement in the early 2000s was published in the European Law Journal, the International Journal on Constitutional Law and the Tijdschrift voor Constitutioneel Recht.

In Onati, he will work on a chapter on the evolution of accession conditionality after 2004.
