Dr Thomas Coggin is a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand's School of Law. His research interests are in the field of property law and the urban and spatial environment, and he is especially interested in how the system of property structures the appropriation of space in everyday life.

He holds a Doctor of Juridical Sciences from Fordham University, and is the global co-coordinator of the International Research Group on Law & Urban Space.
