Candidates must have a University degree in sociology, law, social sciences and/or in another discipline related to Sociology of Law. Undergraduates in their final year may be admitted on the basis of their anticipated results, but they must already have been awarded their first degree diploma by the time the Master's course begins

Applicants must have a good working knowledge of English, reading and writing as well as spoken. The ability to use social science literature published in other languages is useful.

With their application forms, candidates must send: (i) a copy of their passport or identity card; (ii) 4 passport-style photos; (iii) a curriculum vitae; (iv) a transcript of the credits or subjects taken in and showing satisfactory completion of the first degree translated into Spanish by an official translator; (v) an officially recognised copy of the first degree diploma, translated into Spanish by and official translator (vi) a copy of a TOEFL diploma, IELTS or other evidence of fluency in English. Furthermore, applicants must send two references written by their previous university teachers of other scholars. Their references should verify the details of your qualification (s) obtained and your class standing.

Total tuition fees for the 2013/14 Master's Programme come to € 3,000. The remaining € 2,700 should be paid into the aforementioned account before the start of the programme in September. The deposit will not be returned if, for any reason, the candidate does not take part in the Master's Programme.

Within one month of the date of the notification of acceptance onto the Master's programme, a € 300 deposit is required.This amount will be deducted from the total tuition fees and is payable either by Visa or Master card, a cheque in euros drawn on a Spanish bank or by bank transfer to the following bank account:

Tuition fees for participation in single courses are € 150 per week.

Special tuition fees:

For students of the Doctoral Programme in Sociology of Law at the University of the Basque Country and for students of the Renato Treves Doctoral Programme: 40 € per week.
For former IISL Master students: 75 € per week.

Support Fund

The Institute has established this Fund to finance various types of support for students who could not otherwise afford to participate in the Master´s programme. At present the main types of support are:

Tiruchelvam Grants Named after Neelan Tiruchelvam these grants go to studentsfrom countries in category C of the list drawn up by the International Sociological Association. They cover the cost of the tuition fees and lodging in a shared room for a period of 6 months in the Institute’s Hall of Residence.

Renato Treves Grants Named after Renato Treves, these grants go to any student who can demonstrate need. The amounts granted can vary according to the particular circumstances of the student, to cover up to half of the tuition fees and/or lodging in a shared room in the Institute’s Hall of Residence.

Student Activity Grants These are small payments made for activities such as participation in a conference, or to fund a research resource such as special software or hardware.

The Tiruchelvam and Renato Treves grants are decided by the Master´s Programme Committee of the Governing Body. The Student Activity Grants are awarded by the Scientific Director.
